Online ticketing
IRCTC introduced online train reservation for Indian Railways and is currently running this service on its website www.irctc.co.in plus on mobile phones using smart phone apps or SMS. Such electronic ticket is called E-ticket, in addition IRCTC offers a I-ticket which is normal ticket only it is bought online and delivered by courier or a Post.

IRCTC loyalty program „Shubh Yatra“
This is a program for regulat passengers. Passengers can get discounted tickets if they pay an upfront annual fee.
IRCTC´s Rolling Deposit Scheme (RDS) is a scheme under which passengers can deposit money to IRCTC as an advance payment and later they can make a booking against this deposit.
Due to huge traffic every morning IRCTC servers are often choaking between 7:30 am and 10:30 am. It faces this issue inspite of well maintained hardware and commonly target of many jokes. IRCTC recently (2012) anounced to upgrade its server infrastructure to meet latest requirements.
Tatkal tickets
The Tatkal ticket is a scheme introduced by the Indian Railways and is offering last minute booking in Sleeper Class, AC Chair Cars, 3 Tier AC and 2 Tier AC Classes in most Mail/Express trains in India. The booking starts at 10:00 hrs in the morning 1 day prior to the departure of the train from source station. This is to provide all passengers with equal chance to get the Tatkal ticket.
